National Program Manager for 7s, Gareth Baber

Gareth Baber, the new National Program Manager for 7s says he is committed to recognizing Fiji’s legacy and using it as a foundation for preparations for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Baber says he is very much aware of the tradition of excellence in men’s and women’s rugby sevens in Fiji and how much this means to the country.

He says he feels honoured and privileged to have the opportunity to consult as the National Program Manager.

The 2020 men’s 7s Olympic gold medal-winning coach says he looks forward to working closely with the talented players and dedicated staff to ensure that Fiji rugby continues to thrive on the world stage.

Baber also thanked Cardiff Met University for their unwavering support in this decision and where he looks forward to developing the Rugby Programme post Olympics.

He will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the men’s and women’s national 7s programs, including player development, coaching strategies, tournament preparation, and performance analysis.

He will work closely with the coaches, the players, and support staff to ensure that the Fiji Airways Men’s 7s team and Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s are well-prepared to compete at the highest level on the global stage.

Fiji Rugby says Baber will play a crucial role in ensuring a robust strategy is in place as the teams build up towards this year’s Summer Olympics in July.

They say with a wealth of experience in rugby management and a proven track record of success, Baber brings a unique blend of leadership, strategic vision, and technical expertise to his new role.

Fiji Rugby says his engagement comes at a pivotal moment for Fiji Rugby as the Fiji Airways national 7s teams prepare for the remainder of the HSBC SVNS Series and the Summer Olympics 7s competition which is scheduled for the 24th to 30th July in France.
