4 Fijian swimmers to compete at World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championship in Romania

Four swimmers will proudly represent Fiji at the World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championship in Otopeni, Romania, starting later today.

The competitors are Thaddeus Kwong, Reuben Taylor, Jonalese Vatubua, and Eden Waqainabete, accompanied by their manager and coach, Cheyenne Rova, along with technical official Susau Elaisa.

The Fiji Swim team has arrived in Romania and commenced their preparations with a practice session in the warm-up pool.

Fiji Swimming says this event serves as both preparation and a stepping stone for these young athletes as they aim for the Olympic Youth Games and Commonwealth Games next year.

They say gaining this experience and international exposure is crucial for their development.

The championship is set to take place at the Aquatics Complex in Otopeni, a state-of-the-art facility specifically designed for major international swimming competitions, with a seating capacity of up to 2,400 spectators.

Fiji Swimming says Eden Waqainabete and Thaddeus Kwong will compete later today in the 100 metres Women’s and Men’s Backstroke.

They say tomorrow Jonalese Vatubua will compete in the Women’s 100m Freestyle before the whole team takes part in the - Mixed 4 x 100 Medley Relay where Waqainabete will take the Backstroke portion, Kwong the Breaststroke, Reuben Taylor the Butterfly and Jonalese Vatubua in the Freestyle.

On Thursday, Taylor will be competing in the Mens 50 metres Freestyle, while Kwong will be competing in the Men’s 50 metres Backstroke.

Fiji Swimming says the team will also be competing in the Mixed 4 x 100 metres Freestyle Relay.

They say on Saturday - Jonalese Vatubua will swim in the Womens 50m Freestyle while Taylor will be in the Men’s 100 metres Freestyle: Reuben
