More than 160 taekwondo athletes from across Fiji are battling for national honours today as the Fiji Taekwondo Association President's Cup 2026 and the 15th Fiji National Championship gets underway at the Kshatriya Hall in Suva.
The competition has attracted 163 athletes from nine clubs around the country, with women making up 43 percent of the participants, highlighting the growing popularity and inclusiveness of the sport in Fiji.
Opening the championship this morning, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro says the event provides young athletes with an important opportunity to develop their skills while also serving as part of the pathway to the 2027 Pacific Games.
Radrodro says education is not only about academic achievement but also about preparing young people for life by developing discipline, resilience, leadership, teamwork and respect.
Meanwhile, the competition is also the first national selection trial on the pathway to the 2027 Pacific Games in Tahiti.
