A young-people led network that works to promote the voices and meaningful engagement of young people is helping conduct a series of online training on food security and backyard gardening to help people sustain themselves during these tough times.

The Alliance for Future Generations – Fiji has partnered with Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises and Development or FRIEND, a local NGO based in Lautoka for this initiative.

They had their first online training session yesterday from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm on video conferencing tool – ZOOM.

Alliance for Future Generations – Fiji Coordinator Lavetanalagi Seru says the aim of the online training is to enable people to put food on the table but also if there is a surplus, they are able to trade it or sell it to earn an income.

Seru says they reached out to FRIEND because they have the technical expertise and experience to deliver this training around what are the short term and long term food security plans that households can implement and what are the kind of crops and vegetables that can be planted and harvested in the short term to long term.

He says the online training is free and open to everyone and they encourage especially young people to join.

Seru says there will posters on their Facebook page – Alliance for Future Generations – Fiji on when the online training will be done and people can use the meeting ID on the posters to join.
