Fiji Rugby has announced that the Fiji Water Flying Fijians are scheduled to take on the Barbarians in a much-anticipated match at Twickenham Stadium in June next year.

Fiji Rugby Union Interim Administrator Simione Valenitabua says games like these are invaluable to Fiji Rugby, alongside World Rugby’s continued support of our game with the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua.

Valenitabua says Fiji is grateful for the chance to play against the Barbarians at Twickenham, an iconic rugby venue.

He adds the Club has a rich 130-year history with many of the greats of rugby representing them in that time.

Newly appointed General Manager of the High-Performance Unit at Fiji Rugby, BJ Mather says these matches play an important role in the development of our players on the international stage.

Mather says the last time the Flying Fijians played the Barbarians was in 2019 and it provided a brilliant building block, which culminated in a successful Rugby World Cup campaign in 2023.

He says this match will start the four-year process again for the 2027 RWC in Australia.

The two teams have faced each other four times and Fiji have won twice to date.

Their recent encounter was in 2019, where the Flying Fijians beat the Barbarians 33-31 to lift the Killik Cup.

The Flying Fijians will take on the Barbarians at 3pm on the 22nd of June 2024 with the Killik Cup on the line.
