Pacific youth and community practitioner Broderick Mervyn has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Patrick Gock, honouring him as a man of the community, selfless, humble, and ever ready to lend a helping hand to others.

Mervyn says Gock will be remembered not only for his decades of service to rugby but also for his unique sense of humour, his deep love for the sport, and his unwavering devotion to the nation of Fiji.

He says Gock was more than a rugby man; he was a man of the people.

He further says his life reflected the true Pacific spirit, service above self, unity through action, and love for community.

He adds he carried himself with quiet strength, a joyful wit, and an unshakeable desire to see others rise.

Mervyn says that throughout his life, Gock was devoted to nurturing referees, players, and young leaders, guiding countless individuals with integrity, discipline, and compassion.

He says his laughter could fill a room, his mentorship could change a life, and his example of Leadership inspired a generation of young men to aim higher both on and off the field. He stressed Gock believed in developing not only skilled referees, but good human beings.

Mervyn adds that he instilled values of respect, perseverance, and teamwork, teaching that true leadership begins with humility and heart. He says the rugby fraternity and the wider community have lost a true friend, mentor, and servant leader.

He adds that Gock’s legacy will endure in every match played with honour, every community served with love, and every young person inspired to pursue excellence. He says his passing reminds us that greatness is not defined by status or applause, but by the lives we uplift and the values we leave behind.

He further says Gock’s spirit will continue to echo through the rugby fields, in the hearts of his friends, and in the communities he so faithfully served.
