France seek revenge on Spain to reach World Cup final
French midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery says his team wants to exact revenge on Spain and banish painful memories of their exit in the Euro 2024 semi-final.

France and Spain meet again tomorrow in search of a place in the FIFA World Cup final, an even more glittering prize than the one Spain grabbed two years ago.

Back then Spain were worthy winners in Munich but a revitalised France have turned their fortunes around, blazing a trail to the last four with some scintillating attacking football.

Zaïre-Emery says they have a different team, they are ready and want to win against Spain and get their revenge for the Euros.

He says they are going to have to be focused and deliver tomorrow.

Two-time world champions France will become only the third country to reach three straight World Cup finals if they win.

France boss Didier Deschamps, who captained France to the world title in 1998, managed them to World Cup glory in 2018 before they were beaten on penalties by Argentina in the 2022 final in Qatar.

He says Spain will start the semi-final as favourites.

Deschamps says they have only conceded only one goal in six games.

Meanwhile, Luis De la Fuente played down Deschamps' claim that Spain are favourites.

He says it doesn't mean anything and they are two great national teams facing one another.

De la Fuente says whether they are favourites or not doesn't mean further pressure for them.

He adds they have that pressure anyway because they want to do well for their country.

France takes on Spain in the first semi final at 7am tomorrow, while in the second semi final defending champion Argentina faces England on Thursday at 7am.

The final is on Monday at 7am.
