Manchester United winger Amad Diallo scored in the dying moments as Ivory Coast beat Ecuador 1-0 in their FIFA World Cup Group E clash.
The match was locked at 0-0 at halftime before Diallo found the breakthrough late in the game.
The victory marks a positive start for 41st ranked Ivory Coast, who are making their fourth FIFA World Cup appearance after previously qualifying in 2006, 2010 and 2014. Their best World Cup finish came when they reached the group stage in each of those tournaments.
25th ranked Ecuador, meanwhile, are competing in their fifth FIFA World Cup after appearances in 2002, 2006, 2014 and 2022. Their best result came in 2006 when they reached the Round of 16.
Ivory Coast will next face Germany on Sunday at 8am before taking on Curacao next Friday at 8am.
Ecuador will meet Curacao on Sunday at 12pm before facing Germany next Friday at 8am.
In other results, Germany thrashed Curacao 7-1, while Japan and the Netherlands settled for a 2-all draw.
Meanwhile, Sweden will take on Tunisia at 2pm.
