Vakasama settles for bronze in Commonwealth Youth Games 200 metres breaststroke

Team Fiji Swimmer Taichi Vakasama continues to showcase his determination with a strong performance in the Commonwealth Youth Games 200 metres breaststroke which saw him take Team Fiji's first bronze in the swimming event in the games.

Taichi broke his own personal best which he set in the heats with a time of 2.17.17seconds on his way to winning a bronze medal with the fastest time recorded being 2.16.44 seconds.

Taichi beat the old national open record by 4 seconds which he set back in 2015.

Meanwhile, Team Fiji swimmer Temafa Yalimaiwai broke Carl Probert's 15‑16 age group record set in the 200 metres freestyle event in 1992 of a time of 2.04.52 seconds with Temafa's new time 2.04.21 seconds.

Temafa finished first in his heats with the competition continuing tomorrow.

Rosemarie Rova finished seventh in her heat of the 200 metres freestyle event.

Taichi, Rosemarie and Temafa continue their competitions tomorrow.

In the Tennis event, Team Fiji Tennis rep Vienna Kumar continues through to the second round after her opponent failed to make the court.
