The Tongan Rugby Union is now under investigation with millions of dollars unaccounted for.
It is in the wake of an unresolved scandal over the way millions of dollars of international rugby aid has gone missing in Tonga.
Tonga’s Ikale Tahi play the All Blacks at Eden Park on September 9th but in an oddly worded statement today, Tonga’s Prime Minister Lord Tu’ivakano said they are trying to rectify problems inside the Tonga Rugby Union Authority.
Controversy blew up over the salary being paid to authority chair Bob Tuckey of Australia, a former International Rugby Board vice president.
They allege he was paid $300,000 for his chairmanship, along with ongoing accommodation at the Dateline Hotel.
Today Tu’ivakano said the government had investigated, confirmed and currently addressed" the salary issue at the highest levels of authority.
Tonga is in Pool A in the World Cup with New Zealand, France, Canada and Japan.
