The Highlanders have lost their second player for the season with Jason Emery rupturing his achilles.
The injury occurred while playing for the Highlanders second string team the Braveheart's against the Crusader Knights in the curtain raiser to Saturday night's match.
Emery joins Hayden Parker on the sideline for 2017 and continues a horror run of injuries for the Highlanders.
The Highlanders is the only New Zealand franchise team that have not won any game since Super Rugby started two weeks ago.
The Highlanders will take on the Blues at 6.35pm Saturday.
