Fiji to face Samoa in Oceania 7s semifinal

Fiji beat New Caledonia 38-0 in their quarterfinal to book a place against Samoa in the semifinals

The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team will play Samoa in the semifinal of the Oceania 7s at the ANZ Stadium.

Fiji beat New Caledonia 38‑0 in their quarterfinal.

Fiji’s tries were scored by Napolioni Ratu, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Apenisa Cakaubalavu, Waisea Nacuqu, Uluiyata Batinisavu and Vatemo Ravouvou scored the tries for Fiji.

Coach Gareth Baber believes the team is slowing playing better and they expect a tough game against Samoa.

Samoa defeated Cook Islands 19‑12 in their quarter final.

Samoa coach, Sir Gordon Tietjens says they have lost two players through injuries and it will be tough against Fiji.

Fiji will play Samoa at 3:33pm.

Meanwhile, New Zealand will play Australia in the first semi‑final of the Oceania 7s.

New Zealand beat PNG  47‑0 in their quarterfinal.

PNG did not have any answer to the potent New Zealand attack.

They led 28‑0 at half time.

The semifinal will start at 3.12pm.

New Zealand co‑captain Sam Dickson says they are looking forward to battling Australia and keeping their defence intact.

Australia beat Tonga 19‑7 in their quarterfinal.

The match was stopped for a while after a Australian player suffered a serious injury.

In the Women’s semifinal, the Fiji Airways Fijiana will play Australia in the semi‑final at 1.27pm while New Zealand will play PNG at 1.06pm.
