The Fiji Rugby Union says postponing the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games is the only decision that the International Olympic Committee should take now, as thousands of athletes' lives will be in danger if the Olympic Games goes on as scheduled.

CEO John O’Connor says they have told the International Olympic Committee about their situation.

He says they stand with the nations that are calling on the International Olympic Committee to postpone the games.

O’Connor says they understand that Australia and Canada will not be sending their athletes to the Games as a precaution for their athletes and their families from the COVID-19 pandemic.

He adds that the Fijians 7s team will continue with their training as they were given training programs that they have to follow individually as some competitions will be held at the end of the year.

International Olympic Committee member Dick Pound says the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will be postponed by one year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
