Costa Rica has qualified for the quarter finals of the FIFA World Cup for the first time after defeating Greece 5-3 on penalty kicks today.
The game had finished 1‑1 after normal time.
Michael Umana’s last shot won the match for Costa Rica.
Earlier today, Netherlands produced an astonishing late comeback to rescue their World Cup dream as they defeated Mexico 2-1.
Mexico was leading 1-0 after Giovani Dos Santos scored for Mexico in the 48th minute.
Wesley Sneijder equalized for the Dutch in the 88th minute, just when it looked like the Netherlands was heading home.
The Dutch were awarded a penalty in the 90th minute when Rafael Marquez took down Robben in the area.
In tomorrow’s elimination matches, France will play Nigeria at 4am while Germany will take on Algeria at 8am.
Meanwhile, Brazil will face Colombia in the first quarterfinal of the FIFA World Cup at 8am Saturday.
Netherlands will face Costa Rica in another quarter-final match at 8am Sunday.
