It's Richie McCaw's birthday and the All Blacks captain has been delivered an unexpected gift in the form of rich English praise that includes hope he can successfully defend the Rugby World Cup next year.
McCaw turned 34 today and the veteran flanker's hero status continues to be stamped on the international game.
Former England lock Paul Ackford who is a writer and analyst of the game for The Times newspaper in London has listed the deification of Richie McCaw as "one of the things that must happen to safeguard World Cup year and the future of the sport".
Ackford wrote that we all need heroes and the All Blacks captain is one of those.
He said there is no other, and has been no other, like him as McCaw continues to drive standards of performance that rarely dip below exceptional.
