Vunimono High School's Under-15 side defeated Mahatama Gandhi Memorial High School 4-1 in the opening match of the Fiji FA Southern Secondary Schools Football Association final play-offs at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori this morning.
Both teams created several scoring opportunities in an entertaining first half, with the scores locked at 1-1 at the break.
Vunimono raised their intensity after half-time, scoring three unanswered goals to seal an emphatic victory and make a strong start to their campaign.
The Southern Secondary Schools final play-offs bring together the top school teams from the Southern Zone, with the best-performing sides earning qualification for the Fiji FA Secondary Schools National Championship.
The competition continues at Ratu Cakobau Park, where teams will battle for the remaining qualification spots.
