Man found guilty of murdering defacto partner in Raiwai

Anare Vuli Cilicewa has been found guilty of murdering his 28-year-old defacto partner Sabrina Shaheen Ali at a home in Raiwai in October 2024.

According to the post mortem the immediate cause of death was 'fatal asphxyia' caused by gagging or complete obstruction of the deceased's airways.

It was heard in court that Cilicewa wrapped the woman's body in a bed sheet and dragged her body down to the basement where it was eventually found by Police.

Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu says the prosecution has discharged its burden of proving beyond doubt the reasonable guilt of Anare Cilicewa of the charge of murder contrary to Section 237 of the Crimes Act and convicts him accordingly.

The sentence hearing will be held next Friday.
