A Malaysian national, who is in the country as an exchange student, feels blessed and fortunate to witness and be part of the Fiji Day celebration at Albert Park, where she witnessed people from all walks of life coming together with smiles on their faces to mark the occasion.
Huening Tong says she was in Tonga last week and was unaware that Fiji would be celebrating such an important occasion today when she made arrangements to visit the country.
She says independence is an important milestone in a nation’s history.
Tong adds that witnessing military personnel, communities and children come together to celebrate Fiji’s 56 years of independence was an emotional experience.
She says she loves the various Fijian dishes from palusami and lovo, and the various foods available during the celebration.
Tong says the vibes at the grounds is fun and she will stay until the celebrations are over.
The Fiji Day celebration kicked off with the tradition of a march from the Suva Flea Market to Albert Park.
Followed by a Fiji Day parade performed by the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces and the Fiji Navy.
Members of the public and government officials turned up in numbers to be part of this auspicious occasion.
