Despite having no major sponsor, the Northland Rugby Union has credited the grace of God and the people of Tailevu North for rallying behind its village-based players throughout the season as they secured a spot for the 2027 Skipper Cup season.

Vakadewabuka says the union's commitment to developing village youths by steering them away from social challenges and into professional sport has paid off, after a commanding 23–5 victory over Cakaudrove.
He says the team's success reflects the unity of the vanua, strengthened through improved governance, spiritual support from various churches, community policing initiatives, local sponsorship from Nawaibuta Holdings and Commercial Minimart, and the determination shown by the players on the field.
The Former Military Lieutenant Colonel says the union also acknowledged the unwavering support of its people, including yavusa chiefs, mothers' and wives' groups, farmers, transport providers, and extended families, whose contributions have helped sustain the province's rugby campaign.
He says as it looks to the future, Northland Rugby Union is appealing for continued support to advance its long-term development projects, including the establishment of a commercial farm, a gymnasium, and a dedicated rugby park.
Vakadewabuka says the union believes its community-driven model will strengthen grassroots rugby, provide positive role models for young people, and create opportunities for local economic growth.
He says for a team deeply rooted in farming communities, promotion to Fiji's premier rugby competition in 2027 marks an important milestone in what it describes as a much longer journey.
Northland now turns its attention to the Vanua Cup final, where they face a respected Ra side this Friday at HFC Stadium.
