The National Flag Committee has today confirmed that the current Fiji blue used in our national flag will be retained for the new flag.

Committee member and a leading flag design expert from the US, Ted Kaye says the committee has concluded that the most important component of the Fiji flag is the colour of the Flag.

Kaye also reveals that the committee has short-listed 47 flag designs for the next flag for Fiji from over 2,000 entries.

He says the committee follows a number of basic principles when selecting the flag entries.

Kaye adds they are looking at other symbols like the sun, the dove, coconut palm, canoe and the shape of the divisions of the flag that may carry meaning for Fiji.

Several rounds of narrowing down the entries will take place to determine the final few designs.

Fijians will then be given an opportunity to make their comments through a special website and share their ideas through social media.

The final design will then be tabled in cabinet before it is g submitted to Parliament for its consideration when it sits in July.
