Marianne Premila Devi who has been convicted for the murder of her 34-year-old defacto partner has been sentenced to life imprisonment by Judge Justice Salesi Temo.

Devi has to serve a mandatory term of 17 years before a pardon can be considered by the President.

Devi had poured kerosene on her partner and had burned him on 17th November 2016 in Sakoca after an argument had arose between them.

Justice Temo said that it would appear that the demands of life had put stress on Devi.

He also highlighted that Devi and her partner's relationship was not always friendly as they both had a domestic violence restraining order against each other.
