The commissioning of the Starlink internet service marks a major milestone for the village and forms part of the Yavu Village Integrated Development Plan, the Batiki District Strategic Development Plan, and Fiji's National Development Plan.
The new internet service is expected to improve communication with families in Fiji and overseas, provide better access to emergency and weather information, and support education and research.

It is also expected to create opportunities for online business, improve farming and fishing practices, and strengthen disaster preparedness.
To ensure the service is sustainable, internet access will be provided through prepaid vouchers.
Money raised will help cover the monthly Starlink subscription and also contribute to the Yavu Village Development Fund.

Village leaders will also promote the responsible use of the internet and raise awareness within the community.
Village leaders have acknowledged the support of the Mata ni Tikina, the Batiki District Development Committee, and the Lomaiviti Provincial Council in making the project possible.

Village leaders say the installation means Yavu is now better connected to the rest of Fiji and the world.
