Savusavu man, Tolu Young has set a new Fiji record and personal best at the US Open Swim Championships, clocking 55.27 seconds in the 100 metre butterfly event.

The 19-year-old has also made history as the first Fijian to qualify for the US Open Championships Men’s 50 metres freestyle final, where he finished 7th in a highly competitive field in Texas.

Young earned his place in the final after being ranked 6th in the qualifying line-up and delivered another standout performance by beating American sprint superstar Caeleb Dressel in the process.

He also established a new Fiji record in the 50 metres freestyle heats, stopping the clock at 21.92 seconds.

SFASANOC says his result in the 50 metres freestyle final is a fantastic achievement and a strong step towards qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Young still has two more events remaining at the championships, which include the 50 metre butterfly and the 100 metre freestyle.
