Malakai Tobau

Malakai Tobau has been selected for the 2026 McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s Team, earning the special honour of being named the Captain’s Pick by sevens legend Jerry Tuwai.

This recognition is reserved for a player who truly stands out through talent, dedication, and potential and Tobau has done just that.

Known for his speed, power, and tireless work rate, he has consistently impressed and now adds even more excitement to an already strong squad set to compete at Lawaqa Park.

Jerry Tuwai, widely regarded as one of the greatest sevens players of all time, says the decision was an easy one.

He says Tobau has been knocking on the door for years, and his hunger, discipline, and love for the game are exactly what the Captain’s Pick is about.

Tuwai adds that he is proud to choose him, his worked hard for this opportunity.

Tobau says he thanks the Lord for giving him another chance to showcase his talent and hopefully earn a spot in the Fiji Sevens squad.

Tournament Founding Chairman Jay Whyte also congratulated Malakai on the achievement.

The McDonald's Coral Coast 7s is scheduled for the 15th to the 17th of next month at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
