Following earlier security breaches at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces facilities in Nabua and Lautoka, the RFMF now advises the public that RFMF installations are "No Fly Zones" for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles or Drones of any type.
Chief of Staff RFMF, Brigadier General Sapenafa Motufaga says the unauthorized operation of drones over RFMF installations poses a potential risk to the safety and security of the RFMF.
The public is strongly advised to refrain from flying drones over restricted areas such as military installations, as detailed in the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji Regulations.
The RFMF says it will execute counter drone measures to detect, deter and neutralize unauthorized aerial activity that may pose a security threat to RFMF personnel and infrastructure or the wider public.
They say counter drone measures are a deterrent and are part of ongoing efforts to safeguard national security and maintain public confidence.
Meanwhile Police have confirmed to fijivillage News that their investigations continue into the security breaches at the RFMF installations in Nabua and Police.
They say Police investigators from the Criminal Investigations Department have also been assisted by officials from the RFMF, with regards to the sourcing of necessary statements and information in relation to the case regarding the death of drug convict, Jone Vakarisi.
Police confirm that their investigation continues.
Minister for Defence, Pio Tikoduadua had also said earlier this month that he is aware of the reported incidents at the RFMF facilities.
Tikoduadua said both matters have been formally reported to the Fiji Police Force and are currently under investigation, alongside internal investigations being conducted by the RFMF.
The Minister said he had been assured that no arms or ammunition were removed or compromised.
Tikoduadua said the RFMF assured him that they will strengthen security measures across its installations and to maintain heightened vigilance.
