Over 51 desexing surgeries were carried out yesterday at Nadovu Park in Lautoka with support from Animals Fiji, the Lautoka City Council, and the Ministry of Agriculture.
Co-Founder and Managing Trustee of Animals Fiji, Casey Quimby says they conducted desexing, microchipping, and provided parasite treatment.
She emphasises that spaying and neutering are basic responsibilities of pet owners and anyone regularly feeding a dog, stressing that many communities in Fiji are facing serious dog overpopulation, which often leads to conflict between dogs and people.
Quimby adds that by creating a more balanced population, they are improving the health of both animals and humans. She is urging the public to take advantage of these services.
She adds that 30 outreach programmes are planned for the first half of this year in the Western and Northern Divisions, where the charity also operates four permanent veterinary clinics providing care each week.
Animals Fiji’s next outreach will be held next Saturday at Nair Dais Park in Nadi Town.
