As relief efforts continue across the Western Division, more than 50 families that were affected by Tropical Cyclone Vaianu earlier this week received food ration assistance from the government.
The assistance was delivered to families in Nawaqadrua Village in Ba, Drasa Settlement in Lautoka, and Momi Village in Nadroga, who have been impacted by flooding and associated disruptions.
While accompanying divisional teams on the ground to handover the supplies, Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Mosese Bulitavu had the opportunity to hear firsthand the challenges faced by communities and to reassure them of the government’s continued support.
Bulitavu praised the affected families for staying strong and helping one another.
He says the government remains committed to providing timely support and making sure no Fijian is left behind in times of disaster.
The Ministry says their teams are still assessing the Initial Damage Assessments (IDAs) on the ground, which will help plan the next steps and provide more assistance in the coming days.
The Ministry, through the National Disaster Risk Management Office, is working with relevant agencies and partners to manage the response and support early recovery efforts.
