The application for registration by the proposed NextGen Alliance Party has been rejected by the Registrar of Political Parties, Ana Mataiciwa this afternoon.
The Fijian Elections Office says that in her assessment, the Registrar found that the party failed to meet the minimum required number of members in the Northern, Western and Central divisions.
In the Central Division, the legal requirement is 2,000 members.
The party submitted 3,211 names, however only 1,828 members were verified.
In the Western Division, the legal requirement is 1,750 members. The party submitted 2,497 names, with 1,482 members verified.
In the Northern Division, the legal requirement is 1,000 members.
The party submitted 1,562 names, however only 882 members were verified.
In the Eastern Division, the legal requirement is 250 members and party submitted 446 names, with 266 members verified.
The total legal requirement nationwide is 5,000 members.
The party submitted 7,716 names, however only 4,458 members were verified.
Mataiciwa says that as a result, the application has not been approved, and the decision has been formally communicated to the party’s representatives, outlining the legal requirements that were not met.
The Registrar further emphasised that the registration of political parties is governed by established legal standards designed to ensure transparency, accountability and compliance within Fiji’s electoral framework.
She adds that all applications are assessed consistently and in accordance with the law.
Mataiciwa says the proposed NextGen Alliance Party is at liberty to appeal the decision within 14 days of receiving the notification.
The FEO says they remain committed to providing guidance to applicants to ensure processes are understood and properly followed, while upholding the integrity of the political party registration framework.
The proposed NextGen Alliance Party submitted its application on November 21st 2025.
