Nasikasika Farmers Cooperative in the Korotari area of Macuata Province has received a major boost to its farming operations with the handover of a new tractor under the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways Farm Mechanisation Programme.
While speaking to fijivillage News, Nasikasika Farmers Cooperative President, Sailesh Nand says the assistance comes at a crucial time as members plan to expand their farming activities.

He says with improved resources and equipment, they will be able to better utilise their land, improve efficiency and support members’ livelihoods.
The Cooperative has over 10 active members from the Korotari area who work collaboratively in land preparation, planting and harvesting.
The new tractor was jointly funded, with the cooperative contributing one third of the total cost and the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways covering the remaining balance.
While handing over the tractor, Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Tomasi Tunabuna commended the cooperative for balancing agricultural productivity with cultural preservation.
He says the Nasikasika Farmers Cooperative is a strong example of how farmers can balance productivity with the preservation of traditional farming systems.
He says the group’s efforts align with the Government’s vision for sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture.
He encouraged members to continue working collectively and to make full use of the assistance provided, saying that cooperatives strengthen farmers’ ability to access support and contribute to national food security.
The Minister also urged youths and women to actively participate in agriculture through cooperatives.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways reaffirmed its commitment to supporting organised farmer groups through technical assistance, training and access to relevant programmes.
