Lateef sentenced to 3 yrs and 8 months for meth and marijuana case

Former Suva lawyer Shazran Abdul Lateef has been sentenced to 3 years and 8 months in prison after being convicted of unlawful possession of 9.5 grams of methamphetamine and 3.5 grams of marijuana on May 9th, 2019.

During sentencing, Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne said a significant amount of drugs was found in Lateef’s possession.

He said such offences carry serious and heavy penalties.

Magistrate Somaratne also said arrangements would be made at the Remand Centre for Lateef’s rehabilitation.

A non-parole period of 30 months has been set.

Lateef was found guilty of two counts of unlawful possession of illicit drugs in Suva.
