As a Heavy Rain Alert remains in force across Fiji, the National Disaster Risk Management Office is urging members of the public to remain vigilant.
NDRMO says localized flooding may occur in flood-prone areas, low-lying crossings and minor roads, which could lead to traffic disruptions and reduced visibility.
People are strongly advised not to attempt to cross flooded rivers, streams, drains, roads or walkways, and to exercise extreme caution while travelling.
A Coastal Inundation Alert also remains in force for the southern parts of Viti Levu from Natadola through the Coral Coast to Navua, the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, Kadavu, and nearby smaller islands.
The NDRMO says a high tide of 1.8 metres is expected at 5:45pm today, increasing the risk of sea flooding in low-lying coastal areas.
Residents living in affected coastal communities are being advised to stay away from shorelines, avoid swimming, fishing and other marine recreational activities, and remain alert for debris that may be washed ashore or onto coastal roads.
Mariners, particularly operators of small boats, are also being urged to follow official advisories, as rough seas, strong currents and hazardous waves may pose a risk to life and property.
