Following ongoing challenges at Navua Hospital, including the closure of its labour, general, and maternity wards since May this year, the Ministry of Health is now working with the Ministry of Public Works and other partners to assess and carry out the necessary repairs at the hospital.
Responding to the questions raised by fijivillage News, the Health Ministry says that engineers are expected to determine the extent of repair work required to restore the hospital to full functioning in the coming weeks.
Due to concerns regarding structural integrity, the inpatient and birthing units have been closed.
They say structural issues were first identified by hospital staff, prompting the decision to close the building for assessment and renovation.
As a result, the maternity unit has been temporarily relocated to the administration block within the outpatient building.
The Health Ministry says that patients requiring ongoing inpatient care and specialist obstetric services are being referred to CWM Hospital.
The Ministry says these changes have been communicated to residents in Serua, Namosi, Beqa and surrounding communities.
It has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the infrastructural issues at Navua Hospital and acknowledged the dedication of hospital staff in maintaining services under challenging circumstances.
