Thousands of young children across Fiji are expected to benefit from increased investment in Early Childhood Education, with the Government allocating $34.176 million to the sector in the 2026-2027 National Budget.
The announcement comes as Early Childhood Education (ECE) Week 2026 was officially launched, bringing together children, teachers, parents and education stakeholders to celebrate the importance of quality early learning.
Speaking at the launch, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro says the early years of a child's life are critical to cognitive, social, emotional, physical and language development, laying the foundation for lifelong learning and future success.
This year's theme, Together for Every Child's First Step: Early Learning and Endless Possibilities, highlights the importance of ensuring every child has access to quality education before entering primary school.
Activities throughout the week will give young learners an opportunity to showcase their talents and creativity.
Radrodro also acknowledges the dedication of Fiji's 1,435 Early Childhood Education teachers for their commitment to nurturing young children across the country.
The Government has increased funding for Early Childhood Education from $32.336 million in the previous financial year to $34.176 million in the 2026-2027 National Budget.
The Ministry of Education says full salary payments for all Ministry of Education ECE teachers have been implemented under the approved full-day ECE programme since August 2025.
The Ministry will continue working with development partners, including the World Bank, UNICEF and tertiary institutions, to expand access to quality and inclusive early childhood education throughout Fiji.
