13-year-old swimmer Kini Croker made his mark, winning gold in the 200-metre breaststroke, while fellow 13-year-old Rebekah Barratt also delivered an outstanding performance on the international stage, winning bronze in the 50-metre breaststroke at the 2026 Division II Swimming Competition in Dunedin, New Zealand.

Barratt, who swims for Dolphin Swim Club in Suva, also secured a silver medal in the 100-metre breaststroke, capping off an impressive outing in her first international competition.

Croker represents Tritons Swim Club in Suva.

Both Barratt and Croker only began serious training and competition last year, making their achievements even more significant as newcomers to competitive swimming.

Barratt also featured in the women’s freestyle relay team alongside Vikatoria Niumataiwalu, Salote Leca and Grace Khelan, where the team finished fifth against strong international competition.

Their performances highlight strong teamwork and resilience, while Barratt’s medal finishes underline the growing presence of young Fijian swimmers on the international stage.

The competition marks a promising start for the young athletes, with further potential expected in future international meets.
