Fiji’s battle against dengue fever has received a major boost through a new $2 million partnership between the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and the GX Foundation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
The collaboration launches the National Dengue Fever and Other Vector-Borne Disease Control Program 2025–2027, aimed at strengthening surveillance, prevention, and rapid response efforts nationwide.
The Health Ministry says a pilot phase is already in motion, with essential mosquito-control equipment deployed to key high-traffic areas including the CWM Hospital, Nadi and Nausori Airports, Suva and Nadi markets and Nadi Hospital.
They say these resources are helping health teams tackle mosquito and fly populations, the primary carriers of dengue and other vector-borne diseases.
The Ministry says the $2 million in equipment and supplies will soon be distributed to all health facilities, ports of entry—including smaller airports in Vanua Levu and outer islands.
The partnership also finances public awareness campaigns to educate citizens on prevention methods.
