Fiji has officially established its first resident diplomatic mission in Israel, marking a historic milestone in relations between the two nations.

Ambassador Jesoni Vitusagavulu presented his credentials to Israeli President Isaac Herzog at a ceremony held at the President’s Residence in Jerusalem.

During the audience, Ambassador Vitusagavulu conveys the warm greetings of Fiji’s President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu and Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, along with the prayers and best wishes of the Fijian people for peace in Israel and the wider region.

President Herzog welcomes the appointment, calling it a delight to receive Fiji’s first resident ambassador.

In a reciprocal gesture, Israel confirms plans to open a resident embassy in Fiji in April 2026, reinforcing the growing strategic and diplomatic partnership.

Highlighting the strong history of cooperation, Ambassador Vitusagavulu acknowledges Israel’s support to Fiji since 1970, particularly in agriculture and health through MASHAV programmes.

He also reaffirms Fiji’s commitment to Israel’s security, noting the longstanding contributions of Fijian peacekeepers near Israel’s borders.

Fiji is reportedly considering participation in an international stabilisation force in Gaza.

Looking ahead, the Ambassador outlines a strategic agenda focused on agricultural innovation, digital security, economic exchange, and tourism development, including potential charter flights between Nadi and Tel Aviv.

He emphasises that his tenure would focus on harnessing the vast opportunities Israel offers and building a lasting bridge of friendship and innovation between the two nations.
