The Fiji Museum is hosting a 2-day Bakanawa Canoe Making Holiday Programme starting from tomorrow aimed at providing children and youths with a hands-on learning experience in traditional canoe making and Fijian maritime heritage.
They say the programme focuses on teaching participants the craftsmanship, techniques and cultural significance of the Bakanawa canoe, while promoting creativity, teamwork and cultural pride.
They add that the two-day programme will conclude with a canoe race on the 16th of December at 12pm at the Laucala Marina, where participants will showcase their handmade canoes in a friendly competition.
The Fiji Museum highlights that families and members of the public are invited to attend and support the young canoe builders.
They say the initiative reflects its commitment to preserving and celebrating Fijian culture through interactive educational programmes that engage the community and promote traditional knowledge.
