A new codeshare partnership between Fiji Airways and Canada's WestJet will introduce three weekly direct flights between Nadi and Vancouver from the 18th of next month, in a move business leaders say could significantly strengthen tourism, trade and investment ties between Fiji and Canada.

The service will initially operate three times a week before transitioning to an Airbus A350 service from 8th September 2026.

Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Lawrence Kumar describes the development as a “landmark moment” for both Nadi and Fiji.

Kumar says the new route is expected to create opportunities for tourism operators, exporters and entrepreneurs by improving access to the Canadian market.

He adds the chamber had recently raised the issue of direct connectivity during discussions with Canada's Secretary of State Randeep Sarai during his visit to Fiji.

Kumar says both parties agreed that improved air connectivity would help deepen bilateral trade relations, attract Canadian investment and increase visitor arrivals from Canada.

He says Canadian travellers are increasingly seeking authentic cultural experiences and natural destinations, qualities Fiji offers in abundance.

The chamber also commended Fiji Airways for what it described as a bold commercial move and thanked WestJet for recognising Fiji and the wider Pacific as an emerging high-value market.
