Cockroach infestation reported on Suva-Nausori bus, authorities yet to respond

Cockroach infestation reported on Suva-Nausori bus, authorities yet to respond

Passengers travelling between Nausori and Suva have raised serious health and safety concerns after cockroaches were reportedly found infesting a bus.

A concerned commuter told fijivillage News that the bus, which runs every day between Nausori and Suva, was visibly infested with cockroaches.

A video sent to the fijivillage News shows several cockroaches crawling inside the bus, including along the ceiling, alarming passengers during the journey.

The commuter says the situation was distressing and questioned the hygiene standards and maintenance of public transport vehicles, particularly on routes heavily relied upon by daily commuters.

We have sent questions to the President of the Fiji Bus Operators Association Richard Lal last Wednesday, seeking clarification on the matter, however, they are yet to respond.

Questions have also been forwarded to the Land Transport Authority regarding inspection procedures and enforcement of cleanliness standards for public service vehicles.

The authority is also yet to respond.
