The President of the Republic of Fiji, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu hosted a reception at State House to honour the soldiers of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces 1st Battalion returning from service under the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).
In the photos, former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama is seen shaking hands with President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, and is then seen having a chat with Ratu Naiqama and former President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.
The Iraq deployment is part of Fiji’s longstanding contribution to United Nations peacekeeping operations, reflecting the nation’s enduring commitment to global peace, stability and international cooperation.
The RFMF has a proud history of service in peacekeeping missions worldwide, with Fijian soldiers widely recognised for their professionalism, discipline and resilience in challenging operational environments.

On behalf of the government and the people of Fiji, President Lalabalavu acknowledged the soldiers for their dedication, commitment, and sacrifices during their tour of duty in Iraq.
The event was also attended by former Heads of State Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote and Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, Members of Cabinet, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, civil society representatives and the RFMF senior leadership.
The reception celebrated the soldiers’ safe return and highlighted Fiji’s continued role and reputation in international peacekeeping efforts.
