A 14‑year‑old Russian model has died after a gruelling assignment in China.

Vlada Dzuyba collapsed and slipped into a coma just before she was about to walk the runway at a 13‑hour Shanghai fashion show.

Suffering chronic meningitis, which was worsened by severe exhaustion, Dzyuba died two days after collapsing.

The young model was allegedly "too scared" to ask for medical help.

The 14-year-old was utterly exhausted and collapsed after working 12 hours straight.

Her contract said she would work a maximum of three hours a week but she had worked non‑stop during the prestigious Shanghai Fashion Week.

Dzyuba's mother Oksana Dzuyba told NTV she was trying to get a visa to see her but did not get it in time.

The mother says her daughter was calling her, saying she was so tired and wanted to sleep.'

Russian officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding Dzyuba's death.
