The Yaqara Pastoral Company Limited has today made a dividend payout of $3.5 million to government.

This payment is for the period from 2013 to 2015.

The Chairman of the Yaqara Pastoral Company Limited Board, Ritesh Dass says there is untapped potential in production and marketing of premium beef in Fiji.

He says the bill for imported beef is about $18 million in a year and Dass says they can tap into this area and try import substitution and later tap into the Pacific region to market Yaqara beef.

The Yaqara Pastoral Company Limited currently has about 6,000 herds of cattle together with sheep and horses.

While receiving the cheque, Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the Yaqara Pastoral Company Limited plays a pivotal role in contributing towards food security.

He says they are looking forward to the company to invest to improve the quality of their assets, improve their herd numbers and bring more products in the market.
