Williams wins NZ competition
That is Fiji's very own singing sensation Roland Williams who took New Zealanders by storm with his talent after he was crowned the winner of the homegrown singing competition on Maori Television, Homai Te Pakipaki, last night.
Williams, originally from Vanuadina, Tokatoka, in Tailevu, and former Marist Brothers High School student, said the win was unexpected adding it was definitely an experience.
The woman behind Williams’ success and rise to fame, his mum Glenda, said her advice to her son has always been the sky's the limit.
Williams beat 9 other finalists walking away with $10,000 with his rendition of Me and Mrs Jones.
In the competition, there are no judges involved and winners are based purely on popularity, chosen by text votes.
Williams is on a rugby scholarship from Fiji at the Kelston Boys High School.
