One hundred and ten wheelchairs were donated by the US based Wheelchair Foundation to the Health Ministry and Medical Services.
Speaking at the Fiji Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Services Centre during the handing over ceremony, Health Minister Jone Usamate said this will assist people who need wheelchairs in Fiji.
Usamate said that 90 wheelchairs will be given to the ministry to be distributed to selected health facilities in the Western, Northern, Eastern and Central Divisions while 20 will be given to NGOs.
He said the ministry has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Wheelchair Foundation which had donated more than 300 wheelchairs since 2011.
The Wheelchair Foundation is a charitable organization with the goal to provide free wheelchairs to people worldwide in need of one but has no means to acquire one.
