The Fijian Government and their development partners are working on procuring Pfizer vaccines for children aged between 12 to 17 years.

Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong says they are looking at getting around 220,000 doses for close to 110,000 children aged between 12 to 17 years.

Dr Fong says they are also waiting to get more clarity for children under 12 years for COVID-19 vaccination.

Dr Fong says the fact they have been able to vaccinate some children between 15 to 17 years with Moderna, it means Pfizer doses can go to younger children if they get the approval.

As of 24th September, 17,996 children in Fiji have received their first dose of the Moderna vaccine.

The children’s vaccination will resume on October 4th.
