Water woes to be over for residents as new Tamavua Water Treatment Plant to be ready in 12 to 18 months

Good news for those living along the Suva to Lami corridor as construction of the new Tamavua 20 Megalitre modular Water Treatment Plant will start soon, and this is expected to ease the ongoing water issues that the residents are facing.

Speaking during the ground-breaking ceremony in Wailoku, Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau says the work is expected to be completed within 12 to 18 months.

Ro Filipe says residents in elevated areas along Princes Road, parts of Namadi Heights, Tacirua, Samabula, Colo-i-Suva and Lami have long faced frequent water cuts and inconsistent supply due to system strain and poor raw water quality during heavy rainfall.

Ro Filipe says to address this, the government has launched a new modular water treatment plant project which will complement the existing facility, improve water reliability, and better manage runoff and turbidity issues.

He says the total cost of the project is $17 million.

The Turaga na Rokotuicolo, Ratu Apenisa Kalokalosere Loki says he always supports any development that benefits the public because it is for the good of everyone.

Ratu Apenisa says no one wants to experience water issues every day and with this government initiative, it is important that everyone supports it.
