The Water Authority of Fiji has clarified the claim that the ditch in Nausori Town where a delivery truck fell was dug by them and was left for two weeks. In an article by the Fiji Sun last week, Nausori Town Council Special Administrator Uma Kant Patel claimed that the ditch had been dug by WAF two weeks ago and had remained open since.

WAF CEO Barry Omundson says this was misleading because while WAF had dug the ditch, it was not their worksite. Omundson says they were asked to check for a leak and handed the job site back to others when they found there was no leak.

He say their involvement concluded at this point.

Omundson says regardless of this the public were advised by the Fiji Roads Authority that the site was a work zone and traffic management signs had been put out accordingly which was disregarded by the truck driver.
