Workers of 7 agencies in Nasese during the tsunami drill earlier today

Some people walked with no sense of urgency and others who took things seriously ran during the tsunami drill by seven agencies located along the Nasese corridor this morning.

The drill has highlighted the need for more urgency when the threat of a tsunami is imminent.

It started at 11 this morning and included about 2,000 people from the Office of the President, Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, iTaukei Trust Fund Board, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Police Academy and the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service.

Some people arrived at the assembly point at Berkley Crescent RFMF Strategic Headquarters within 20 minutes which was the response time set by the National Disaster Management Office.

The first group of workers that arrived at the destination point were from the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service and with them was their Director Corporate Services, Fazrul Rahman who says people will have to run in a real life situation.

Also part of the tsunami drill was President Jioji Konrote who could be seen observing the necessary evacuation procedure for the President and his staff.

Police officers carried out the mock evacuation procedure infront of President Konrote.

Emergency response teams were also present at the assembly point and they also carried out mock exercises.

The National Disaster Management Office has nine Tsunami sirens along the Suva Peninsula.

The areas include the Kinoya Sewerage Plant, FINTEL in Vatuwaqa, the RFMF Officers Training School in Vatuwaqa, My Suva Park, the Government Training Centre in Nasese, the iTaukei Lands Trust Board Rooftop in Nasova, Civic Carpark Rooftop in Suva, Government Shipping Services in Walu Bay, USP lower campus and Lami Town.
