The trial of a man who allegedly killed his wife and mother‑in‑law in Kadavu has started in the Suva High Court and the prime witness took the stand before Justice Salesi Temo yesterday.

41-year-old Sitiveni Qio Vasuturaga is charged with two counts of murder and one of attempted murder.

Jimmy Morrell told the court that he was residing in Namuana village with his aunt, grandmother and Vasuturaga when the alleged incident occurred.

Morrell told the court that Vasuturaga is his uncle.

He mentioned in court that Vasuturaga stabbed his grandmother six times with a bread knife.

Morrell told the court that Vasuturaga then stomped on his grandmother's face and also said to her that she had caused this.

He informed Justice Salesi Temo that Vasuturaga attacked him and he was admitted in hospital for two days.

The alleged incident took place at Namuana Village in Kadavu in August, 2014.

Vasuturaga allegedly knifed his wife and her mother after a family dispute.

The trial continues today.
