Tourists who used to visit Fiji are now doing their part in trying to assist struggling families in the country through International Needs Fiji’s “Friends of Fiji” initiative.

More than 200 families have been assisted with food packs under this initiative.

Majority of these donors who are living in New Zealand, Australia, the UK and the US are doing online shopping and the items are delivered to the families in need.

International Needs Fiji Executive Director Tomu Raiviu says they did their profiling and identified the families which are vulnerable and need assistance.

Raiviu says their organisation distributes the items to the ones in need.

Raiviu says from what they have seen on the ground, more families are in dire need of assistance and their situation could get worse.

He adds the $360 government unemployment assistance has come in handy for most families.

International Needs Fiji has so far assisted more than 500 families since April this year.
